This film is part of our winter series, running at De Uitkijk throughout December and January. This year, our winter series focuses on loneliness, but don’t worry, you can still enjoy warmth and good company at De Uitkijk…!
“Sex is the ultimate weapon.”
An arrogant fashion designer becomes obsessed with a much younger, icy beauty who wants to be a model. A (mental) sadomasochistic, entirely female love triangle unfolds, challenging conventional roles and exploring themes such as love, beauty, and impermanence from a queer perspective.
The successful fashion designer Petra von Kant has been living alone with her assistant and lover Marlene since the death of her husband. Petra’s friend Sidonie introduces her to the beautiful Karin, who has spent years living in Australia.
Petra quickly falls in love with Karin and offers her a job as a model. Lacking her own place in Germany, Karin moves in with Petra temporarily. The rest of the film follows the emotions surrounding this relationship and its aftermath. Fassbinder tells his story in a series of five or six long scenes, making extensive use of single-camera shots and deep focus.
